Labor unions in
the United States have refashioned themselves into environmental
groups.

Marx visualized
a global worker's paradise
Greens
visualize
a paradise with no workers
So big
foundations help greens
buy out whole unions
They call it
"Just Transition" |
Political Science
Professor Jarol Manheim (George Washington University) was the first
to analyze this shift in
The Death of a Thousand Cuts: Corporate
Campaigns and the Attack on the Corporation (2004).
An early alliance
of unions and environmental groups began in 1992 with the informal
Blue - Green Working Group, which developed into a training and
organizing task force that recruited members of dozens of unions for
indoctrination courses, funded first by the Nathan Cummings
Foundation, then by many others. (click

Labor and
environmental groups formed many alliances, some for election
campaigns, others for elaborate long-term projects such as the Union
Sportmen's Alliance formed as an adjunct to the
Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
